SAFETY AT SCHOOL

The safety of students, staff, and parents is our top priority. AACPS maintains a page on School Safety & Security. Please take some time to review the information prior to volunteering at the school.

Student Safety Considerations

A special note about phone and camera use:

Pictures from school that include students other than your own should not be posted on social media. Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), parents have the right to prevent photographs of their children from being taken in instructional settings.

School Crisis and Emergency Plans

Do you know what to do in an emergency? Fortunately, AACPS provides dedicated resources to guide us.

All school staff are familiar with the plan and their individual responsibilities in the event of an emergency.

Key guidelines for families:

  • Students, teachers and staff have been trained to handle emergencies that affect their school.
  • Do not attempt to access your student at the school during an emergency.
  • Be mindful that normal school activities, such as dismissal, visitor access to the building, etc., will be impacted by security-related events.
  • Monitor the local media regarding the emergency as you will receive information regarding when and where you will be reunited with your student. Keep in mind that you and your student may be reunited at a location other than your school.
